Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing uses welded steel hinges and v-groove or flat rollers across most of its sliding and swing gate lines. The roller itself is not universal across the line: the 6002 and 6003 use a different wheel diameter and bearing size than the heavier 6100, and swapping them out of spec is a fast way to bind the gate. We check the roller diameter, the wheel groove profile, and the bracket offset before matching the replacement.
If your gate still has the original metal ID tag, the serial number and model code are stamped on it. If the tag is gone, we measure the roller wheel and the hinge barrel length, which usually narrows it to the correct series within a few minutes. For DoorKing specifically, we install OEM parts when the gate is under five years old or under a service agreement, but we also keep quality aftermarket equivalents for older models where the OEM roller has been superseded or costs more than the repair justifies. Signs Your DoorKing Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate drags or scrapes on the track or at the latch post. A worn roller loses its wheel height, which lets the gate leaf settle lower than it should. The bottom edge then rubs against the concrete or the guide post, and that drag is your first hard clue.
- A grinding or gravel-like sound during travel. Roller bearings wear out long before the wheel itself. When the bearing is gone, the wheel stops turning freely and starts sliding inside the groove, which produces that grinding noise and flat spots the wheel.
- Visible sag at the free end of the gate. A failed upper hinge lets the entire leaf tilt away from the post. You’ll see the latch no longer lines up with the striker, or the gap between gate and post is wider at the top than at the bottom.
- The gate hesitates or stalls mid-travel. As the hinge binds, the operator’s motor has to pull against friction instead of just rolling the gate. The gate slows down, stutters, or trips the auto-reverse more often than it used to.
- Rust staining or orange flaking around the hinge pin. In Arcadia’s warm, dry summers, rust forms slowly, but humidity off the San Gabriel foothills will push moisture into the hinge barrel every winter morning. We use a lift jack and a helper on anything over 300 pounds, and we recommend you not work under a gate supported by a car jack or a stack of blocks.
